Why Princess Sakura?

I saw this illustration about a year before and decided to actually make it. Ties in my love of CLAMP and Halloween. What isn't to love?

How'd you do it?

One of my most challenging and time-consuming costumes. I used and altered a historical McCalls pattern that would hopefully help with the poof of the skirt that gives it the "pumpkin" poof look. This was my first project using boning too which was sort of exciting. Most of it was made from an orange satin fabric I found on sale at Joann's. The fabric was stiff and thick, so I thought it'd be great for making the dress shape stand better.

The bats right now are made of thick craft foam. Same goes for the headband. I don't have any finished photos of this picture, but I'm hoping I will soon.

After thoughts?

This costume in particular was a make or break for me. It was bad timing and I tried to tackle too much too late. The convention was a bit of a disaster, having to bring my sewing machine and safety-pinned myself into the dress. The convention and this costume made me decide that if I ever had to bring a sewing machine to a con again, I'd need to take a long needed break from conventions.

I'd like to wear it again, but I'd like to work on it without a deadline and when I don't have other projects in my way.
